Strong Tunneling in Small Quantum Dots: Kondo E ect in Two Model Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
We study electron transport through single and double quantum dots with large level spacing and charging energy. Motivated by recent experiments we focus on linear and nonlinear response of two model systems: a single dot with two levels and a capacitively coupled double dot. At low temperature and strong coupling to the leads, quantum uctuations and Kondo-like many-body eeects become important and show up, e.g., as resonances in the current-voltage characteristics. In particular, we propose a way to observe the splitting of the Kondo peak as a function of the applied bias voltage.

Do quantum dots allow one access to pseudogap Kondo physics?
For the last decade[1], tunable quantum dot systems have allowed the investigation of Kondo physics wherein the quenching of a single spin on an artificial atom affects the conductance. The pseudogap Kondo model (pKm) featuring a density of states ρ(ǫ) = C|ǫ| , introduced by Withoff and Fradkin[2] in 1990 was predicted to exhibit Kondo-like physics above a critical value of the Kondo coupling, ...
متن کاملLinear Kondo conductance in a quantum dot
In a tunneling experiment across a quantum dot it is possible to change the coupling between the dot and the contacts at will, by properly tuning the transparency of the barriers and the temperature. Gate voltages allow for changes of the relative position of the dot addition energies and the Fermi level of the leads. Here we discuss the two limiting cases: weak and strong coupling in the tunne...
متن کاملCorrelated electron tunneling through two separate quantum dot systems with strong capacitive interdot coupling.
A system consisting of two independently contacted quantum dots with a strong electrostatic interaction shows an interdot Coulomb blockade when the dots are weakly tunnel coupled to their leads. How the blockade can be overcome by correlated tunneling when tunnel coupling to the leads increases is studied experimentally. The experimental results are compared with numerical renormalization group...
متن کاملNon-crossing Approximation Study of Multi-orbital Kondo Effect in Quantum Dot Systems
We study the three-orbital Kondo effect in quantum dot (QD) systems by applying the non-crossing approximation to the three-orbital Anderson impurity model. By investigating the tunneling conductance through a QD, we show that the competition between the Hund-coupling and the orbital level-splitting gives rise to characteristic behavior in transport properties. It is found that the Hund-couplin...
متن کاملKondo Effect in Artificial and Real Molecules
In this Thesis we develop a novel direction in the theory of nano-objects, i.e., structures of nanometer size in a tunnel contact with macroscopic electron reservoirs (metallic leads). This theory arose and was developed rapidly during the two recent decades as a response to challenging achievements of modern nanotechnology and experimental techniques. Evolution of this technology enabled the f...
